Does anyone know of an easy way to get them? So far ive tried Experian and Equifax to no avail. Experian wanted me to tell them how long id been at my previous address for, to the exact month (not even my mother knows!) and the Equifax thing just kept failing and they wanted me to call them, as I have no phone its kind of a problem.

Im in a serious state of rage right now as I was refused a student overdraft afew weeks back. Natwest deemed me a bad credit risk (never had a credit card, or a loan), im guessing cause im in a rented house (at home, not uni). Id try with my Uni address but I think im flagged now which isnt good. I want to get to the root of the problem but these companies arent helping!

Anyone have any ideas?

They need to ask those questions to establish your identity. The problem is that you have no credit agreements at the moment. This is why you are struggling getting credit and why Equifax/Experian are having trouble tracking your identity.

For what it's worth, when I checked by credit reports, I was probably a month or two out at my time at address. However I would suggest making a little more effort and try and get them the right information.

You don't get "Flagged" as such, but it is really not a good idea to put down wrong information as you can get something called a CIFAS put on your record which will make obtaining credit in future much harder.

you can't get an instant one online

either apply on line at www.creditexpert.com or write to Experian

Even if it takes a week or 2 to arrive in the post im not fussed, just solong as I can find out why this has happened.

The CreditExpert site seems to be for yanks only, and clicking UK visitors takes me to Experians site :(.

I might try the £2 report I can get mailed off Equifax again, however last time I paid my money and was never mailed the report .

they send a pin number to your home address, you can't use it till you receive it

Ah fair enough. I did use this a couple of years ago and forgot about that. I remember being able to get subsequent reports instantly after that though.

Makes sense really, as a way of proving the address details you have given are valid.

creditespert and experian are the same company

I thought it was Equifax and Experian which are two seperate companies totally that ran Credit checks in this country, not one wholeally..... is that a word? ("wholeally")

All I know is that I hate them both. I understand the need for security but im so raged right now its unreal. I managed to sign-up for an Equifax report, and now its telling me my logon details dont exist! Hurrah, heres hoping they dont charge my card.

dunno if anyones said this but make sure your down on the electoral register

i wasnt and companys like equifax tried to tell me i didnt exsist :p

the nice lady at the bank told me the above might be why

once i got it all sorted they managed fine (still no rating mind but atleast they had knowledge of my exsistence)

Just got all my 3 reports.

Equifax
Experian
Callcredit

Nice to see that Equifax has all my cards, and Dad's cards on there as well .. seeing as he has the same first name as me :p

Just send £2 cheque and they arrive within about a week (how long it took with me anyway)

It's ridiculous. I have no credit cards, no bank loan, no overdraft. Yet I got turned down for a Virgin Mobile because I don't have any credit anywhere. What really annoys me is that I am already with Virgin, and the fact that they have turned me down makes my credit score worse...

Yet you read about people with 6 credit cards, numerous loans and up to their neck in debt, yet they still get credit thrown at them. I think this credit checking system needs a kick in the ****. It's obviously not working if I cannot get a mobile because I don't have credit, yet if I was about £25,000 in debt I could have what I liked.

You need to establish a credit record before companies will dish out credit to you. Right now, you are a potential risk to these credit companies, because your credit record is currently not known.

Once you get given credits, you can build up your credit record, and hence will get more things in time.

In Decemember, I was turned down by Virgin for a contract with them. Yet, in the same hour as phoning Virgin, O2 accepted my application for a 12 month contract. Bearing in mind, I have two credit cards, both of which were being dealt with by debt collection companies at the time.
