After paying a garage a ton of money to remove my siezed cat midpipe and replacing with a pre gutted one bike went down to Crescent today to have it mapped by one of the best tuners in the UK.

Here is the before and after results, 166rwbhp, bike feels amazing. While I waited in the cafe you could see them putting together BSB machines, really nice setup they have there.

Hehe cresent are renowned in the biking community to have over exaggerated dynos :p but still good mate :p

hmmm, i think it's a fair reading, and not sure where you got that rumour from, I've heard Alan Cook is one of the best tuners about and the dyno is latest spec from dynojet.. moore speed racings dynojet dyno (same model) gave me 160 pre decat and I'd expect 5-6bhp from the decat so it adds up quite nice.

the first run of 157 is what I'd expect from a stock / badly mapped bike.. and she was running like a dog tbh

dynos are a comparative tool rather than absolute measurement, and before and after and more importantly my butt dyno says they did a good job, bike comes up in third on power now.

I found as I got older I just dont have bottle of holding long wheelies any more.. especially now I heard it's potential insta ban offence. :(

Best bike so far was my old 2001 R1, the only bike where I found the holy grail of wheelies balance point and could keep her up till I ran out of straight road :)

these days it's just up, feel scared of getting nicked and down again...

best advice to holding wheelies is to do them faster rather than 1st gear power only. Use 2nd if you can and clutch her up if you need to, you'll feel much more in control
 
yeah it's a weird feeling seeing your bike thrashed within a inch of it's life for 45mins.. but nice to know it's fueling will be spot on for the future. Downside is my brand new pilot power 2ct looks abit sadder now :(

you running stock map with cans atm ?, if so I'm sure your bike will come alive with abit of tweaking, and on a v-twin that only gonna result in a big grin :)
 
I guess, though im sure they aint got a special button on dyno software called 'inflate readings' ;)

At end of day I was expecting 165 with the work done on bike and I got 166 (I didn't even speak with tuner so he had no idea), so sounds spot on :)

Like you say it's all relative and the curve / fueling is whats important... and I trust crescent more than most as they prep BSB machines :)

On a bike that weighs only 175kg with no fluids 9hp is a lot.. the extra 5 torque through the whole rev range is also pretty amazing. Throttle response is now instant...

9hp on a car would be not so noticable I guess.. though look at torque / power curves to get a better idea.

I can honestly say the bike now is quicker than anything I've ever ridden, and with the lower gearing it would easily be faster in roll ons than even my old busa. Last night on way back from Poole quay bike night I opened her up to the stop and inbetween stuggling to keep wheel down I went into a massive slap / wobble at about 110 in second. Was a scary thing and thats with steering damper on max :(, dam fun though

btw, to any other bikers poole quay on tuesday nights is getting sooooooo popular, at 630pm the quay was full and the 2nd arena filling up. I'd guess a couple of thousand bikers and it's only 3rd event of the summer :), downside is when I set out I decided to wave at two police bikes who were pulled in and they then followed me all the way to quay.. was like being on my driving test again DOH

There is a photo van on entrance to quay getting snaps of everyone (you can get prints done), here is me being sensible, must pull wheelie next time though it's tricky as police are everywhere :) ...I'm top left.

not just dyno though, before the remap could be successful I had to replace cans / new air filter / peg open exhaust valve / gut the cat along with a TRE to get secondaries open sooner (though their benefit is negligable on dyno).

That lot inc the power commander comes to about 1k :(

So it's not gains for nothing money wise, but still cheap compared with going full system route or being totally mad and getting thinner head gaskets / head work etc.
 
heh, well.. their dyno actually read 3bhp lower than moore speed racings dynojet one and they were only other approved power commander tuner in area.

if anyone says stock ZX10 wont put out 157bhp at wheel I'd punch them in face.. ;), though I know of two other totally stock 07 ZX10s putting out 159 on same dyno.

only other bike I ever had dyno'd just for fun was the tl1000, she only made 135 at the crank!!!, so thats about 120 at wheel I guess.. lucky that v-twin grunt made up for it, well up to a point. (when the ZX12 I was leading practically ripped my fairing off coming past so fast)

edit: as a addition everyone knows ibhp (interweb bhp) is any real number +10 lol

if you are refering to the air / fuel graph thats spot on, right ratio for a street bike is 13.2 .. and look at my first run 6k rpm result, bike was running super lean.. and as that is cruising rpm the bike would have run hot.

AFAIK, you can improve power by running leaner than 13.2 but you sacrifice engine reliabilty and thats what race bikes do.. I'm glad I got it done 1 day after the decat or I could have done long term harm to engine.

after the remap look at the fueling graph, it's almost dead straight, result! ..the knock on of well setup fueling is a optimized power / torque curve, but then it would as it's all the tuner adjusts anyway :D. Remaining dips in power delivery are just untunable due to mechanical factors in engine / exhaust etc etc

what I can't understand is guys on forums with power commanders setting up maps themselves without a dyno, sure you can try the butt dyno but you may well knacker your engine

Very true- with mine, it's up to just shy of 80 at the wheel from 67 stock (SV650) but the extra power's basically irrelevant, what makes a huge difference on the road is the delivery, and the curve. With mine, the bike originally choked after peak and the power fell like a stone, which meant shifting up short, now it gets close to peak 1000rpm earlier and stays there til the limiter, which means I can stay in the same gear for longer (I did a lap of knockhill in 3rd and in 5th the other day, just because I can :D). I couldn't care less about that extra 20% power really, you just adapt to it.

Thats a good increase, but by improving throttle response via remap you are generally also gonna increase power / torque. The crisp feel of perfect fueling and optimal safe power are linked hence your 20% increase.

All the benefits of correct fueling mean the bike is better to ride in every way.
