Cricket - The Hundred

Cracking match going on between Phoenix and the Invincibles right now. Could still go either way.

And Alex Hartley being a right minx earlier “how many fingers do you use?” and then trying not to laugh.

Was one I switched on and thought....oh this game is done......then watched Curran flip it on its head. Amazing turnaround.

There's no denying T-20 is a fundamentally good sporting format. Good length, and the way the runs/balls naturally tends towards a close finish a lot of the time as the players manage the riskiness of their shots to reach the total. Having T20 and Hundred is bloody daft mind.

The first few games were a bit flat, but it does improve as the weeks progress, some proper fight on display, and getting those kinds of crowds and atmospheres at cricket grounds on weekdays when there's a game every day is quite an achievement.

The hundred is entertaining but it's a format that wasn't needed, different for the sake of being different
I kind of get it though, The Hundred is very much encouraging kids to get into the sport. T20 might be (essentially) the same format but I feel like it's a little more stuck in 'those who already like cricket' territory for whatever reason.

Edit: that's not to say they couldn't have revamped it with the same intention mind.

Ultimately it exists because it was a way to justify making a whole new competition alongside the existing T20 blast. It’s fundamentally exactly the same sport.

That's that for the year, no surprises for the mens, quite a surprise for the womans

See you in August next year.
