Hi guys, iv got a budget of around £300-£350 to spend on comp upgrades for christmas. My current specs are:

Intel Core2 Duo E6300 @ 2.4ghz
ATi X1900XT 512mb
Freezer 7 Pro (Mabye looking at water cooling but depends whether it comes within budget)
Hyper modular 580w PSU
MSI Platinum (2 years old)
Antec Lanboy
2x 500gb seagate barracuda's (Sata-II)
XP - Vista (one on each drive)
2gb G.Skill 6400

I was looking at getting a 8800GT but im not sure what else to get. Would I need a new processor+motherboard?

Thanks guys!

Other than the graphics card as you said, your system is reasonably up to date already.

How about another 2GB of RAM? or a Quad core?

If you are going to upgrade your GFX card I would recommend a new PSU, Hyper don’t have a great reputation to be honest.

The 8800GT is a great card, but if you don't game too often it might be worth goin for the ati 3850 or 3870, and there's not too much difference between them and the 8800 (apart form the 8800 is just a bit faster than the 3850).

Like Kobrakai said, it might be worth getitng another 2 gig of RAM, especially because of the prices at the moment. But I'd only say this was a good idea if you have a 64bit OS, as a 32bit one won't recognise all 4 gig of it. You might see a slight perofrmance boost with a quad core cpu but it might not be worth it if you don't do much audio/video encding or other processor-intensive tasks.

I suppose youcould upgrade your mobo but you wouldn't see that much of a performance increase really, if any

may aswell just get the cheapest PC6400 2gb set going, you're not likely to want to overclock the ram more than 800mhz, because you probably won't get the FSB past 400mhz, not with that cooler anyway.

The ocuk site isn't working for me atm so I cant get a link.

edit: ignore, didnt realise that the spec in the op was what you already had.

Maybe a cpu cooler to clock your current up ;)

Very good advice, I personally would upgrade the case/PSU as those are the likely bits to hold up future upgrades.
