Crimpers - 2 choices (within reasonable budget)

Which crimpers would anyone recommend for ATX and dupoint connecters.

I've looked at two choices :

Buget: £50 approx.

First is the original Molex branded ones: (This looks the most promising I've saw for the price.

The first one seems like you need to crimp the wire and then the insulation which seems like a more accurate way to crimp. Simply because you can line the wire up correctly inside the crimp terminal. Whereas the second MDPC-X one is thicker with not as many size choices.

I also think by looking at it, with it going up in smaller increments results in greater precision.

Opinions on these if you've used them?

I couldn't find any on the OC store.

Your first link doesn't work. I have one identical (apart from the colour) to the MDPC one but the huge difference is the price. I paid around a tenner on ebay for it and it works perfectly. In fact it's a heavy duty tool that will probably last a lifetime. Don't pay rip off prices when you can get something just as good for much less. I have made fan cable extensions, molex cable extensions and psu extension cables with it so far and it does the job extremely well.

As you can see it's the original Molex is cheaper than the MDPC-X one at £35.

The org. Molex I'm looking at is £35 which isn't bad considering these Molex branded ones (rachet type AFAIK) can go for as much as £500 which is just a mind boggling price.

I can live with £35 to have an original.

Notice the smaller increments on the Molex one. It's not a rachet either but how hard can a little Molex crimp be to bend. The reviews I've read about it seem great.
 
It's a rip off for what it is. I use one of these and it does a brilliant job. It's a good heavy tool, not some lightweight flimsy thing that you would expect for the price. If you want the jaws to have a bigger choice of what they can crimp how about one of these or even this one that comes with a selection of different jaws. The one that I have is all you will ever need for pc connections though.
 
I'm possibly planning to make some and sell on eBay after I do my own resleeving. I can't see many sellers from Ireland here so I'll give that a go.

So the most reliable pair is what I'm after.

I'm leaning toward the Meterk pair with the more specific crimp die sizes.

I just thought the OEM pair would give me the best results with less headaches. And has all the crimp sizes I'll ever need.

Decisions, decisions. But at the price of the Meterk pair, I suppose you can't go wrong.

Hi Stephen, dont get the Meterk crimpers i bought a pair a couple of weeks ago and within half an hour of using them the jaw chipped, so I RMA them, I bought a second pair and exactly the same thing happened again. They have a very stiff ratchet on them and difficult to open once ratchet has started. I bought a pair of Weierli Crimpers from ebay only cost about £10 and they are a superb piece of kit..
 
I've bought a £43 one.

They're Japanese crimpers and the reviews speak very highly on both eBay and Amazon. In all my research I found that the Japanese ones are the best.

The reason I didn't go for the OEM ones I was looking at was that I read that they didn't do dupoints too well.

Maybe I took a risk but it has a 30 day return available.

Thanks guys for your input. Sorry I didn't go with any of your suggestions. Or my own ;)

It mighten be a complete waste of time as I'll write back with my findings once I get going with them.
 
Each to their own :)

I've just read that the Chinese one's are an inferior product to the Japanese one's which swayed my final decision.

These seem lightweight and easy to handle. There'll be enough time between sleeving and crimping to avoid cramp. Otherwise the ratchet type would've been bought.
 
Regarding wire strippers, I have these. 20eur if I remember correctly. Work perfectly for my use. I was using them for very thin gauge wire and hopefully they'll be fine for 17awg stuff.
