The internet suggests this is akin to relations with your sister and one should only use punch down sockets and ready made cables.

Is this true?

Am using a Klein pass through crimper and already crimped a few cables with CCA and they were fine.

Thanks.

I'm confused here.

Are you talking about copper clad aluminium?

There are two types of copper cable Stranded Cable and Solid Copper.
Stranded tends to be used in patch leads and SOME RJ45 aren't suitable for crimping solid cable, however, you can't really punch down stranded.

You can get solid copper crimps and most on the market these days are.

If you're talking about copper clad aluminium, it's garbage cable, there is no space for it in the market and when using it for things such as PoE or higher bandwidth applications it does not hold up to the same standards.

This was made ever more difficult when the Construction Products Regulation enforced Euroclasses, one of which is Euroclass Cca which makes my life very difficult :)

No you can do it, I did several with a cheapish amazon pass through crimper with no previous experience.

I would advise getting the pass through RJ45 connectors and a sharp knife for cutting the excess off the front.

I struggled with the non-pass though/standard? connectors though, fortunately I had a few different types out of having no idea what I was getting.

If it works then it's fine. The corner cutting is going to be different for you using some cables in your house where you have a tool to remake the ends if you have to vs. something installed for a client.
