Hi Guys!

Modding some cables and i accidently snapped one of the legs on one of the motherboard cable wires. I've managed to source some new pins to replace the snapped one, but whats the best tool to crimp them down with?

You can get a cheap crimp tool for £15 and several price points above. I got one and found it completely unusable for small stuff like fan plugs. You may be luckier with bigger crimps like ATX pins but I wouldn't assume so, at that price.

There are very reasonable value ones for closer to £50 that will be great to work with for PC stuff. If you intend to do any more future cable work of invest in those.

I custom sleeved my psu wires a while back, and the one I used was an Iwiss crimping tool. Costed me 19 pounds and it does the job.

I have one similar to this and have made up loads of fan extension cables, molex extension cables and pci-e extension cables with it and it's been excellent. Only a couple of crimps were messed up and that was down to me not putting the crimps in the right place when I first started using it. It's a ratchet crimping tool so you can pur the crimp in the jaws and squeeze the handles so that it just holds the crimp and then slide the wire in and crimp it up fully.

You could always solder the wires to the pins , depending on your skills.
I modded an old dell 330 desktop with 2 100mm led fans in the front, replacing the single dell one. Had to remove the pins from the proprietary dell connector and solder the fan wires the pins. Fiddly as owt.
