Criterion thinks if you've maxed out the 360, you're not trying hard enough..

Wannabedamned thinks if games as good as FF10 and MGS3, can come out on hardware like the PS2, Then who cares where the overhead ends on the 360.

Basically developers, if they want a game to work on the hardware, they'll get it to.

They also make the middleware engine used by a lot of EA games. Don't forget all of the GTA III games ran on a Criterion middleware engine too.

There's a lot more to Criterion than just racing games. They've got a very good R&D business too.
 
With enough time and investment any skilled developer can squeeze extra power or find more efficient ways to get a console to do all its jiggerry pokery in full splendor. I can remember when we finally got proper transparency effecs on the Sega saturn in the death throes of its life. But these days the gaming industry is more a business than ever before so when it becomes financially viable to move on to new technlogy rather than tinker with the old hardware thats what comopanies will aim to do. It is laughable that two parts of the same company disagree with each other - dont they read their own news :)

Rather than raw graphics processing designers need to concentrate more on the artwork and creativity. The PS2 was a good example of this. The only thing I miss with consoles is the lack anisotropic filtering in so many games.

I love comments like this.
"already maxed out it's limited", by already meaning so quickly, but the console is over 3.5 years old and no, games are still getting better looking. I agree, if you're saying you've maxed it out then you're not good enough. Mass Effect 2 will be proof of this.
 
I do like it when things like this come out - the "It's maxed out, it's limited" is quite a defeatist attitude when it comes to coding, surely it only makes sense to say that after you've sunk some good time and effort into getting something to run.

I mean look at some of the PS2 stuff, SOTC etc, they look phenominal - and the PSP! Crisis core is amazing for a console so small.
