Hey folks, I only stumbled across this site while shopping around for components for my pc that I want to build. I live in Ireland so this sire seems like the best variety/price for what I want.

So, to put it shortly, I'm not very tech savvy. I've never built my own pc either. However, I'm quietly confident that I can do it with the help of guides I've been finding around the place etc etc.

So before I list the components I just wish to point out that this is going to be a gamging rig and also a media centre plus I really just want a kick ass computer :P

So, here goes:

Case: Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black

Mobo: Asus P6X58D Premium Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

Processor: Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)

RAM: OCZ Obsidian 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600Mhz Triple Channel Kit

Graphics Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Power Supply: Corsair HX 850W modular power supply

Cooling: Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler (Socket LGA775/1156/1366/AM2/AM3)

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB SATA-II 64MB Cache - OEM

Optical Drive: LG CH08LS10 8x Blu-Ray Reader/16x DVD±RW - Black (OEM)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit - OEM

Mouse: Coolermaster Sentinel Advance 5600 DPI Gaming Mouse with OLED display

Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard

I'm really not sure about what to get in regards a monitor. I'm going to read the guide in the monitor section now in a minute but things it must have are 24+ inches, HMDI input, full hd 1080p.

Thanks for any help I get :)

I dont like the H50 cooler. A megahelems or TRUE would be my more favourable substitutes.
The HDD is an ok storage drive but I wouldnt want it as my primary OS/apps drive. Get something more along the lines of a Samsung F3 or WD caviar black.
No point in paying for Ultimate, Professional has all the useful features for cheaper.
That 850W PSU is great, no harm in getting better than you need but you could shave some cash off if you wanted and get the 750W and still have plenty of room for crossfire later.
I dont like the case but it is personal prefference, no real problems with it.

whats the pc going to be used for.

If its a gaming machine you could save money and go for a i5 build instead, i dont believe many people are using the i7 cpu for what its really good at (encoding etc)

and just to add , youve found the best forum for your needs! :)

Thanks for responses guys.

I'm gonna stick with the power supply because imo it's better to be looking at the extra watts than for the extra watts :P

Switch that hd for a 1tb WD cavier black.

I want this machine to be a pretty solid, future proofed piece of kit which is why I'm going with the i7 and the mobo.

I like the cooling system and have seen some pretty good reviews for it and results but I'll look over the suggestions.

It will be about two months or so before I can afford it and I know Nvidia are gonna be releasing Fermi by then so I'll probably be able to factor that in if I like the price :P

E: That looks like a very nice monitor indeed and the price is sweet too. Dunno how I missed it before :P

Thanks!

Samsung F3 instead of the WD black? Seems to be a popular recommendation. Other than that, I think the build looks pretty good - you've obviously done your research. :)
