Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of advice please. Been meaning to post this for a few weeks now so it may sound like a bit of an incoherent rant.
I built a home gym last year and started working on stronglifts for a while. Unfortunately work got a bit manic and after making some progress stopped and restarted again in January after scaling back the weight a bit. I’ve got quite an active job, some days will be spent constantly lifting and lugging things about, others will just be sat on a tractor for 14 hours.
I’ve been bulking on 3800 calories a day since and looks like I’ve gained some muscle and hit 85kg. I’m 5’ 11”. However I started getting a bit slack and “dirty bulking” rather than keeping things clean. As such the bit of a gut I’ve always had has grown a little.
Anyway here are my lifts which are nowhere near impressive and I’m actually quite disappointed with:
Squat – 100kg. However I’ve decided to pretty much drop all the weight and work on form. I am very inflexible and cannot touch my toes. When I squat I can’t flex at the hips enough and end up pushing too much of the weight with my back which is starting to cause problems. So I’m working just with the bar and a bit of weight to try and stretch daily to see if I can make an improvement.
Bench – 55kg. For some reason I’ve never ever been able to get higher than this even when I was quite dedicated years back. Maybe my form is duff but I’ve tried a lot.
BOR – 62.5kg
OHP – 42.5kg
Deadlift – 95kg and still raising quickly and easily each week.
Also doing a few dips and chins at the end depending on which day.
So come to now, I’m looking to cut for the summer. Using MFP to log calories I’ve spent the last week on 1800-2000 a day.
My diet now is usually as follows:
Wake up, protein shake
10am 4 scrambled eggs, 25g butter, 1 slice white bread, small bit of smoked salmon.
2pm 1 white pitta bread with small amount of houmous
Train about 6pm
Protein shake straight after
9pm Steak, small jacket potato with small amount of butter, some spinach and a bit of broccoli.
I try to eat the same things every day just as it makes shopping and cooking that much easier. However I will mix up the evening meal to something like pasta and meatballs or chilli and rice etc.
Just looking for critiques of everything really if possible. Is my diet too carb heavy? Do I need to add in cardio? Can you get anywhere near ripped with diet alone? Is 5x5 still ok to work on during a cut? I feel like my numbers won’t go up but I should be able to keep them steady. Can post pictures if needed.
Cheers in advance.
