Critique this build

So it does.. I'm thinking it depends on how many threads the game can handle, and that at the moment both are marginal difference, and so if price was an issue.. i5, but if not.. still i7, OC it, triple channel ram :)

You can never build a rig that's future proof so I would lower you expectancies here. Prob ems is (looking at Intel) as soon a new architecture arrives, then along comes a new socket and Motherboard etc.. My advice is have an upgrade road map and buy what's best at that time and not what could be round the corner.

Yes and it would last longer that way anyway, going the AMD way would only let you upgrade to the 6x anyway and then they will have a new socket, actually AMD have 3 new sockets planned for 2011 but I think 2 are for servers.

Whenever you upgrade CPU, just upgrade MB aswell, prices sucks but it's the only way to do it properly

This will sound bad! But spend as much as you can afford! Your setups look very good, although I wouild change the ram in that last one to Corsair XMS3 or something, had dead sets from ocz before (then got upgraded to xms3 for free :p).

I like the i7 build more, and would future proof you for the next few years. I would also change the hard drive to a WD black. Other than that it looks wicked and you wont regret it. I wouldn't buy an SSD now, wait for a bit longer for the prices to become a little more reasonable (rumoured this year)

I am also waiting for lower SSD prices.. maybe IBM will have atom drives by the time SSD are cheap and regular HDD's will die.. got a few years at least lol.

I would also go for the corsair, but in the example I was going for a budget i7 option with the already selected parts like the case, etc.. although both the HDD's have good reviews.. it doesn't affect game performance much, mine is slower but lasts longer, it's a 24/7 survalience HDD, people complain about load times on crysis etc.. loads pretty instantly for me.

He can still afford to go SSD and i7 by the looks of things

you can trim the cost of the above by using a Antec new truepower psu, which is made by seasonic and is equally as good but £30 cheaper.

I posted several days before lol...

Ah well, personally I have heard problems with the P6T SE anyways with missing ram but as I said before I was going for the budget option, the ASUS MB's everyone seems to get if OC'ing, personally I don't see the point, Gigabyte are the MB leaders.. and yet look what MB I got.. and the OC is very easy
