Hi, my friend is building a system and asked me for a spec.

His main uses will be for converting .avi/.mkv files to dvd format and burning them, creating customised DVD's etc.

A nice graphics card might help and in this area I don't really know what to choose, he might consider playing the odd game in the future and might invest in a HD drive in the future..

But mainly it will be for the video work.

He already has a Monitor/keyb/mouse/speakers

This is what I have so far:

Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Case With CM eXtreme Power 460W PSU £39.99

Intel E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core 2x1.8Ghz 800FSB Retail Boxed Processor £46.95

ASUS P5PL2-E i945PL SKT LGA775 Serial ATA-300 6 Channel High Definition Audio ATX £38.09

Point Of View 7200GS 128MB DDR2 DVI VGA TVO PCI-E Graphics Card £18.99

Kingston 2GB KIT (2X1GB) DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300 CL5 Non Ecc 1.8V £35.01

Seagate ST3160815AS 160GB Hard Drive 7200RPM SATAII/300 8MB Cache - OEM £33.99

All for a grand total of £213.02 inc delivery and VAT

What can I improve for the same price or slightly more.

A nice graphics card won't help in the least in this area. That one will be dreadful for gaming, just a tish bit better than integrated video. Does he have any intentions of overclocking?

EDIT: How much more is slightly more? You could save a bit with different memory. You could also save a bit by going with an integrated graphics mobo. The Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H would do nicely. You could also save on the HDD.

FYI, by my math the above parts added to the case specified and a retail Q6600 comes to £326.94.

It depends on whether or not the program he's using is mulithreaded. If it is you'll see a very nice boost from it. If it isn't aim to get the highest clockspeed you can afford.

Ok ill probably go with the original spec and change the gfx a bit.

Does anyone else recommend anything else I should change
