Hi all

Me and my GF are planning a trip to Dubrovnik next June for 7 nights, we have picked the hotel (Kompas) which is about 15 minutes from the old town. I wanted to ask if anyone has done day trips to Mostar and Kotor?

I see theirs quite a few tour groups offering trips but you can also just get a normal bus and have a look round yourself. Guided tour worth it?

Also, are the Game of Thrones tours rips offs? I assume you can just find the key locations yourself.

I done a day trip to Mostar in mid summer this year. Was about 38c and upto 40c in the valley.

We went into a shop in Dubrovnik old town to book it. Visited a little old village in Bosnia on the way and a Waterfall/park on the way back in Bosnia also was really good.

Game of thrones tour did not do even though im a big fan didnt think it would be that great.

My brother has done both Mostar and Kotor and he reccomended Kotor but we all wanted to go Mostar.

We were in Dubrovnik a couple of years ago. Much later in the season mind, in October and from what we heard June/peak of Summer gets incredibly busy especially the old town so getting out the the city is a good idea. We stayed for 7 days and did both Mostar and Kotor. Mostar was interesting but Kotor felt a bit boring, perhaps as we didn't get to stay there very long. I probably would do Mostar on it's own if I were to do it again and probably another day out of town by renting a car an heading up the coast. We did guided tour as the drive to Mostar is about 3 hours with a few stops on the way/tour so it's quite a long day and didn't fancy driving in Bosnia.

Game of Thrones tours; worth if you don't want the hassle of researching too much yourself and interested in the show. Most of the tour guides are residents of the old town and quite a few have starred as extras in the shows and have their stories about the bigger characters/actors etc. Ours was a young guy, very good English and really geeky about the show. As it was late in the season it was a really small group of 4 so was quite nice. From what we heard; a lot just depends on the quality of your guide but ours was fantastic.

7 days in Dubrovnik seems like a lot, you only need a day or 2 to explore the city. I would split up the holiday and spend half your time somewhere else e.g. one of the islands.

Game of Thrones tour was good. Initially seems expensive but the tour includes entrance into different parts of the city which you would otherwise need to pay for.
