Cronus Device (Multiplatform USB Adapter Xbox/Ps3/Wii/PC)

Posted in someones thread about Ps3 controls on PC, but not sure how many console guys look at the PC section. This device has been brilliant for me and may help others looking for cross platform control needs. I'm also pretty sure not many people have heard of this device.

Stumbled upon this magical little gadget a few months ago and its amazing. It basically allows most of the popular input devices to be used on the PC and both consoles. Its not exactly cheap but if you use multiple systems like me and prefer different control methods its a life saver.

It also has inbuilt buttom mapping set to profiles, so you can switch mapping mid game ie Ps3 controller often uses R1 L1 to fire, while Xbox 360 uses RT LT (R2 L2 equivalent). Using this you can get around games which support no remapping. I have PS button + Select mapped to cycle profiles.

The website explains it better, but it comes in two variants. The basic one and the Xtreme which supports MODs. I brought the Cronus Device regular from the rainforest named book store.

The Cronus Device is just a small usb stick that comes with a micro bluetooth adapter to plug in the end. It has two pieces of software CronusCFG, for buttom remaping and Bullseye for specifically mapping m&k to various controllers. These are loaded as profiles while the Cronus is plugged in your PC, then different ones are activated on the fly when your on other devices. All gamepads work out of the box default ie Ps3 and Xbox have 1:1 mapping so people may not need touch the software.

I personally use it for ps3 on 360 and Ps3 on PC, but have tested it with friends using 360 on Ps3.

Just had a quick look on youtube at a review and it seems it does work well. I'm really tempted to get one for my PS3, I also wonder if it will be compatible with the PS4.

Can't see it supporting next gen systems, but would be nice if a firmware update could add ps4 support, as they probably will go with a similar bluetooth system. I use it for all three systems and it has impressed me.

Why . You can just use Motioninjoy and a £2 Bluetooth dongle to do this.

You cant use motionjoy on a Xbox to use a ps3 pad? or to that matter a 360 controller on ps3. Hell, you can even use a Wii remote on Ps3/360 if thats your thing.

From another thread about motion joy and Ps3 on PC:

I've used motion joy for years and became increasingly frustrated with it. Its pretty unstable, needs to be online (unless moded), has an awful interface and in the past given me blue screens. Not to mention support for it has ground to a halt. I also have a hat full of usb bluetooth dongles that I brought as part of the lottery to get wireless supported (until the official one could be brought).

It is also a hardware solution, plug and play on PC. Not to mention motionjoy requires all other bluetooth adapters to be unpluged when installing or it messes up other mouse and keyboard dongles. It makes installation more fiddly.

Mine's been perfectly stable and the offline version is easily searchable via Google. The interface is incredibly easy to use (select the mapping you want and click enable) and I can't comment on the blue screens. The thing works perfectly fine for most people so updates aren't need that often and the first dongle I bought worked fine.

To be honest I think its an ad ridden piece of bloatware. Its a system that has worked for me in the past, but not always. It's never been amazing, its always been a compromise/work around. No were near the fluidity or stability of Xbox 360 pad on windows. Early versions were a joke. Cronus Device also works on boot, every boot without having to enable 360 emulation every time.

If your happy with it that's cool, keep using it, but even the Motionjoy forums have people complaining about it. Hell even users are frustratingly trying to recode and skin the program on the forum as developer support has dried up.

This is about having one device for all your control needs. Surely you can see that? It just so happens it also works on PC. It has applications beyond just using a pad on your PC.

Anyway, this is the console section. If you want to talk up the merits of motionjoy go to the PC forum.

First time I've heard of this device, looks good. I would buy one so I could use my 360 controller on the PS3 but I'll wait now until the new consoles come out.
