so I bought this system:

Upgraded the ram to 8GB and the GPU to the 6770 and now (about 2 months later) I decided I wanted to go Crossfire, there was a couple of problems though, the GPU (XFX ATI Radeon 6770 1024GB GDDR5) is completely sold out (that or you guys don't sell it separately) so my first question is can I just buy any 6770 and plug it in? or does it have to be a 100% match?

Second problem (don't know if this is just a bug or w/e) is that when I open Dxdiag and go to display it shows this:

If you look it says total approx memory is 712? Now the site said it would be 1024, is this a glitch or a bad driver? why is it showing that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have yet to decide on a budget but seeing as I only just bought the PC 2 months ago it seems a waste to just change the GPU so quickly, I mean I can run WoW at completely maxed out settings without any lag and I only want a better score on PSO2, with current max settings its this:

And thats at only 1280x720 resolution, but with max main settings, I ideally want about 5k+ at 1080p it drops to 1800 and max it goes down to 1700 (highest with tweaked settings at 1770 and lowest being 599 (but admittedly I had 3-4 other programs running in the BG when I had that low score).

So I saw some peoples scores increase dramatically when they used SLI (went from 10k to 14.9k) so I am inclined to believe that another GPU crossfired would do the job adequately.

Oh and ftr 2k and under sega recommends you reduce the workload 5k and under is good but could be better 5001+ can run perfectly at current settings.

I've been really happy with crossfire. (6950's) Most games scale really well the the 6xxx series so you should be looking at close to double performance in most games. Not had any drivers issues either, i just uninstall/update the drivers once a month, same with the new caps profile.

Thanks! In that case I will go crossfire then, I can afford to buy the second GPU tomorrow now this leads me to another question...

Will I be able to just plug it in? or do I need to install some sort of driver to be able to crossfire it? Will I need any other cables (pretty sure I have a load of spare power slots but a sata cable, my last one was taken up installing my second HDD) and you mentioned you uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers once a month... now excuse me for being a noob but if you uninstall the driver won't the monitor stop working? how does that work out? so in short:

1. Plug and play?
2. Extra SATA cable coming with my new GPU?
3. How do you go about updating the drivers without the monitor stopping working?

1:You'll need to update your drivers regularly and install something called CAPs at the same time. That's all I know about crossfire.

2:Sata is for data transfer from hdds/ssds/optical etc, sata power is for powering those.

6770 requires 1 x 6 pin pci-e connector from the psu. From your psu specs:

PCI-E 8 Pin Connector 1 x 6pin & 1 x 6+2pin

So you have the required power connector in there.

3:It'll use a generic windows vga adapter driver while you install the right one.
 
Don't jump in, no point in plugging in another gpu and crossing your fingers, this is why lots of folks don't rate dual cards, they just jump in blind.

Read up a bit more on how it works and what you have to do.

Does your game work well in CrossFire, there must be answers somewhere to find on this question alone.

It isn't always best to upgrade drivers/caps monthly either, there is absolutely no point in upgrading monthly if your games run well and as they should, you just leave the door open for something else to go wrong.

From your dx pic, I suspect your onboard gpu is still switched on in the bios or virtu is enabled(which is utter **** with CrossFire by the way).
