I'm currently running a modified MSI GX660R laptop, with a i7 920xm (unlocked cores and overclocked) coupled with an ATI 7970m GPU. 2xSSD's 12GB memory

Looking at more powerful laptops they seem to come with pretty hefty price tags, so I was wondering if its possible to canabalise the GPU, SSD's, and memory into a crossfire barebones laptop with a stronger CPU and with a 2nd 7970m in a cross-fire configuration for mwoar power :D

Does anyone know if barebones laptops exist, to be able to do this, and hopefully in a 15.6" laptop?

Or if anyone has any experience with this :)

They're called white box laptops. Clevo is probably the best known and biggest manufacturer of them.

My own Clevo I could spec everything from the panel manufacturer to the cpu, gpu, ram, hdd, odd, ssd and network card. But mine isn't a gaming laptop. Though Clevo do make them. And companies like Gigabyte have rebranded them as their own in the past.

Managed to find a complete barebones W110ER and fitted my own CPU/RAM/SSD had to go looking as it was not on the "front" page of the online shop.

A Clevo P370EM had Xfire 7970M fitted as well as the AW M18, however l think it unlikely you will find many out there, the 7970M you have would require the correct bios etc.

Good luck in searching, however l think it may be a long one.

However you may be able to find a barebones P150EM, as these used a single GPU so should be somewhat readily available.

Yeah my 7970m I had to flash with a modded vbios, but its ran (and still runs) great, just games are getting more texture hungry!

The more I look into it the more it looks better to not bother :( and just buy new.

Cost wise it looks to be more efficient to sell up or split the components I have and put that towards a new laptop, my GX660r could always be put back to stock as I have the original CPU and GPU, and raid HDD's.

I'm in no rush at the mo, so will keep an eye out some more :)
