The girlfriend and I have decided to invest in a cross-trainer to help slim us both down a little. Personally I would have preferred bringing my weights and bench from my mothers but the girlfriend has vetoed this. I don't really have time for going to a gym in the summer so we have compromised on a cross-trainer for us both to use in the 2nd bedroom.

We have a limited budget so the cheaper the better and would like to get it soon rather than wait a couple of weeks. I would also require it to be good enough to give me a good work out in a short time and not be too easy. Can anyone suggest where to buy from and which cross-trainer to pick please.

I have a Carl Lewis eliptical trainer (brought only a few weeks ago) and it's solid, has plenty of programs and settings enough to make it useful and not too easy. It's quite big so unless you have the room it may not fit and at £280 it's not that cheap - but it is by far the best piece of home equipment i've ever brought. I've tried the cheap stuff and they feel really cheap and nasty and I tend not to use them, therefore I thought I'd spend a little more this time and I'm pleased I did.

Brought it from high street retailer 'the one with the thick catalog ;)' and it took about 5 days to arrive although it says it could be up to 14 when you order.
