Crossfire 280x upgrade path

I bought a couple of 280x a few months back and got them to crossfire and fairly stable after a few teething issues.
However it would seem the 2 games i play most do not appreiciate them and tend to do funny things on screen every so often which to my dismay is rather annoying as one of the gamse did show a massivie FPS increase with them running.

So im now looking at a single card solution from the AMD camp that with match or come very close to their performance in crossfire, thus gaining the benifets of having the crossfire setup and none of the drawbacks which i have already seen /had.

The main reason i wish to go AMD camp is i bopught a nice shiney new Benq 144Hz monitor which supports Freesync which i would like to see the benifet from also.
Yes i am aware that an Nvidia card will work on this monitor quite happily at 144hz but Freesync would not be availeable

To match the (best case) performance you probably need a fury or furyx.

your cards are in some games faster than crossfire 380x, due to the wider memory bus.

A 390x would not be faster in all cases.

Basically as above. Crossfire has disadvantages.. its hard to move on from a setup which was no doubt expensive. I too had 280Xs and I hated them - they caused me all sorts of headaches. I'm now on a single 390, and frankly its a wholly better experience, although I don't get the performance of 2x 280X.

I'd give it some thought - the single 390/970 will give good performance. I don't know your games/setup, but do you need the extra by going to the Fury at twice the price or so? Worth a thought, even if you do go for the high end :)

Well i got both 280x for MM here as RMA replacments for a total of £170 or there abouts
My 2 main games are SW:tor and WoW so lots of people running about etc on the worlds not to mention all the effects when raiding in a large group.

one possiblilty is a 390x which should give me a lot more performance than a single 280x is just a factor of how close
but hopefully be close to that of the crossfire setup without the £500 layout unless the Black friday deals drop them majorly in price.

Well personally I'd get a single 390 tomorrow, which are due to be on offer around £205 then it's pretty much a sideways move (generally, ups and downs) without the pain of Crossfire :)

At that price i couldnt help my self i had to purchase 1
As you say a sideways upgrade as there should still be a sizeable increase with the single card over a single 280x but a definete loss compared to crossfired 280x.
But it does have the benifet of freesync which should mean with that enabled when the fps does drop i shouldnt notice it as much as the monitor should drop also to compensate so less tearing and def less artifacting.
