Hi all,

I have a Gainward 512M 4870 golden sample card, that's running nice and happily. I think it may be time to throw some more money at my system though, so I have two questions.

a) can I crossfire any two cards together? e.g. I can't find the 512M version of the same card around anywhere, could I use a different 4870? A 4890? Would I lose performance from pairing it with a slower 4870 (ie would it clock to the lower of the two)

b) Should I go down the crossfire route, or should I ditch it and go for a 4890 or an nVidia one (I've lost who is ahead again). I'm after bang for buck really, on top of my existing system.

Thanks in advance guys,

Just dont pair it with a Card that has 1Gb Memmory, because both cards will then run at 512Mb!

and you will be wasting the 1GB cards 512mb in crossfire X

/end thread! :p

unless you have money literally burning a hole in your pocket then I'd be tempted to put up with just a golden sample HD4870 512MB until the new cards from ATI come out . . .

You're probably right, Big.Wayne, though Warhammer could run a bit faster at times ;) Suspect that's their servers instead of my graphics card though...

Thanks for the tip about the 1G cards, I may wait til the next generation and sell/part-exchange my 4870 :)
