Hi all, im getting a new setup very soon jest need to find out about the psu?

spec:

750W TX Corsair PSU
Asus Maximus Formula se
C2D X6800
2x Raptors and 1x 250gb
1x dvdrw
xfi
2x HD 4870

do you think the psu has the power for that system?

Hi Guys,
Got one question,
do you think a 550w power supply (gigabyte odin gt) would power a 4870 and 4850 in crossfire.
I also have a q9300 overclocked to 3GHz (at the minute) 2 hard drives, 2 dvdrw and 4 fans.
What do you reckon?

I'm fairly sure a 4850 and a 4870 in CrossfireX will run at 4850 speeds only. Bit of a waste of a 4870. Sell the 4850 for a small loss and buy a second 4870 in my opinion.

if the game is working properly then you can have different clockspeeds, buffer amounts, etc and you'll still get a nice gain...in other words one card won't hold the other back.

Otherwise it will default to scissor mode and the 4870 will be held back by the 4850 slightly.

Personally, I'd just get 2 4850s and cf. It's almost 1/2 the cost and the performance difference is not far behind

I don't have either card yet, i'm just toying with the idea.
I would like to get away with not upgrading my power supply, but would really like the 4870 and was also thinking of adding the 4850.

After having read your posts though, I don't think a mix and match would be so great.

Cheers for the replys :)
