Christmas is nearly here,
I feel like treating myself,
Now i have two ATI 5770 crossfired, will i see a difference if i get a ATI 6950
My plan is to also buld a 3D machine, so the card is not just for games, but for movies to.
Thanks

I think ur games will b smoother and youll have better fps. But you will see quite a performance increase. I went from 5850 to 6970 and i was really happy with it

Been debating this myself and the reviews give very mixed results for the new AMD cards. I personally see no real path that gives a performance gain worth the outlay. The only card i see with performance worth upgrading to is the 580 however they are rather expensive at the moment.

U dont think the 580 is worth it. But to be fair i am bias towards amd. The 580 is really expensive now. I would maybe go for 6950 xfire or a 6970 atleast

The 580 is a very capable card however there is no way I could part myself with 450 quid for the sake of gaming. Considering 5770 crossfire matches a 5870 in titles that allow multi-gpu which is pretty much all new ones nowadays it's still a very high performing setup.

The OP only really states it's for gaming and films as i'm not entirely sure what being a "3d machine" entails. Assuming he is only gaming on 1080p then I see no need for him to upgrade other than the need bought on by the "upgrade itch". Personally I think he would be better served buying an SSD, that's if he hasn't got one already, and waiting for the next big round of cards.

Hi
I am building a machine to play games and 3D blurays movies,
To the best of my knowledge the Ati "5" series cards can't do 3D, the new "6" series can do 3D.
This is one of the reason i am thinking of upgrading.
I do have a SSD HD,

The 6950 performs about the same as a 5870, which crossfired 5770's are equivalent to.

You'll see no real difference afaik. Maybe in minimum framerates, but that looks to be all.

2x6950's would be worth it, but not one.

If its just normal gaming and 3D Blu-ray's then a 69XX series will do that well. If you want to do 3D gaming and 3d Blu-ray's then 470 SLI or a 570 would be the better choice.
