well I picked up a second 7950 msi tonight and put them in on crossfire..

Ive had a go at watchdogs and ive got colored blotches appearing.. I upgraded the driver to the newest and sadly still the same. ive even tried both cards separate and ive not had a problem..

my specs are

AMD FX-6350
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3
12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz
msi 7950 O/C boost edition x 2
be quiet power zone 650 watt psu
2tb seagate slave drive

I also did a bench test and I wasn't impressed. it was worse before I updated the driver..

crossfire ( was a worse score before I done the driver update.. )

think I will go back to a single card and sell the second and buy an SSD

That motherboard won't help, the second slot is only 4x. had a similar show with my old asrock board, nearly no performance increase in crossfire, which was 16/4x too.

Yea...should have sold the 7950 and gotten a 2nd hand 290 instead, considering the CPU bottleneck and the motherboard's lane/bandwidth restriction...

With that said the general saying is "don't use Watchdogs as benckmark for performance, as the games is pretty broken in terms of performance wise regarding of what hardware people use".

Also with it being a Nvidia Gameworks title, that's pretty much almost same as no crossfire support.

You've got a CPU Bottleneck, the PCI-E being at 4X on the second lane doesn't help much either.

But Watchdogs is pretty broke anyway as far as Crossfire goes I think?

Definite cpu bottlenecked, stacked with slow memory won't help things. Overclock the cpu or better yet, switch it out and put a 8350 or better in there to help drive those 7950's. OcuK have AMD cpu's on sale at the moment, so a great time to buy.

I'd disable ULPS via afterburner if you have not already.

ive dropped back down to one card at the moment. I did try my cx750 in out the other machine and the results were the same.
after I installed the beta drivers things were smoother but on the games im playing at present im getting better results with a single card..

so my thoughts are...

(a) sell both msi's 7950's and get a better single card
(b) sell one card and buy an SSD and better ram ( would need to add cash )
(c) stick the second card away until I get funds for better CPU, motherboard, ram

my thoughts are with the b option.. get an ssd for a system and program drive and add some cash towards getting faster ram. I have been happy with the single card so far so. once ive done that go to the idea of then getting a newer better board and a 8350

I'd say buying a much better CPU and motherboard is your priority. I wouldn't worry about buying more RAM for now, that's not going to hold you back as much as a crap CPU and motherboard. That 650 really is close as well, I'd say a 750w minimum, 850w ideally.

This is my 7950 setup as reference on a Z87 board, I7 3770k @ 4.6Gz and 16GB XMS Corsair DDR3

OP, can you run valley with these settings:

Render:
Direct3D11
Mode:
1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen
Preset
Extreme HD

I don't think the CPU is the main problem here, it is a problem, yes, but not what's causing it to be so bad.

As a comparison, heres my 1card/2card scores, running an 8320 at 3.9 with 2 cores disabled (as close as i can get to OP CPU wise)

1 card:

2 cards:

I think the bandwidth on that second slot is the main problem, these are 8x/8x scores.

ive done a fresh install of windows, done a load of updates, downloaded all the up to date drivers and swapped in my cx750 and run the benchmark on the settings you have asked

Ive upped my core to 1000Mhz and memory up to 1300Mhz

Looks about right to me. Tried running just one card too? Is it similar to my one card score? Not sure what's changed but my experiences of 16/4 crossfire wasnt great.

yea my second pcie slot is x4 think I will start looking for another board. ive noticed as well that during game play my gpu temps are very different. 1 card can be at 44c where as the other can reach 80c which is a bit worrying

CPU has nothing to do at this point (benchmarking). Two cards are always stronger than one. x4 slot makes small difference, anyways and it's not responsible for your scores:

http://www.overclock.net/t/967533/crossfire-x16-x4-vs-x8-x8-comparison

If you say temps one of them is 44C, so it means SIMPLY it won't work as supposed. Maybe CrossFire is not turned on, or doesn't work properly. Check GPU clocks and workload (Afterburner for example).

First thing I'd blame, personally, is PSU which might not give enough power to both cards. 700W is a minimum for such setup, and I'd take 750W just in case (graphic cards are oc'ed, FX might be oc-ec etc).. having all respect for your be quiet @ the same time :)

the crossfire logo is coming up on the right hand side so it should be working.
my boards second pcie is 4x so im on the look out for a better board.

I have swapped to the corsair cx750 I done this just before I done a fresh install lastnight.
I do think the 750 has made a wee difference ( or could be the fresh install ) but im now looking at getting a be quiet 750 or bigger as I never realised how much noise I got off the cx750 until now
