crossfire 7950, something is not right

Quick question: if he overclocked both cards "the old fashion way" at a speed beyond the boost clock, wouldn't that had fixed the problem as well, forcing the cards at a certain speed?

I had all kinds of problems like this with my 2 7950s and sorted it by using a non boost bios and driver reinstall. It was a while ago mind you
