Bagged myself a bargain 2nd 7970 that I didn't really need... But it was cheap.

Do I go crossfire in my main machine (FX8350, Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0, 32GB RAM, Gigabyte 7970) after upgrading the PSU, replace the 5850 in my HTPC and sell the 5850 or sell both 7970s and upgrade the card in my main machine.

I do game on both machines, the HTPC being connected to a TV in the lounge and I'm happy to run at 1280x720. I'm not a huge gamer though, nor do I need to play the latest games. One 7970 is more than fast enough for me.

What would be a worthwhile upgrade from two 7970s for around £150, factoring in the cost of a new PSU?

By your own admission, one 7970 is more than you need. Why would you be asking this question?

A rx480 or 1060 should be there or there abouts

cf 7970 is a bit better than a 290X in performance but with 1gb less vram. should be plenty for 1080p but it'll pump out a fair bit of heat and noise.

What PSU do you have currently?

I upgraded from a 7970 to a 1070.

The only reason really for doing so was that the 7970 was old and sounded like an plane taking off at above 35% fan.

Flashheart, while one 7970 is enough at the moment, I don't mind future proofing if I have the hardware available. I don't need the latest hardware nor do I upgrade often. Also, on certain games I may be scaling down the quality to run at a decent resolution smoothly. Where I say a 7970 is more than adequate, it's at a level that I'm happy with... But I wouldn't say no to higher resolutions, haha.

Pandem, an Antec VP600P in a. Corsair Carbide 540.

Shaf, I know what you mean. I normally game with headphones on so noise isn't a huge issue. The machine is very quiet during normal use.

try get a better power supply say around 900 Watts, If your going to put the second GPU in you PC.

Thanks guys, a better PSU would have been my first port of call before adding the 2nd card. I have a Corsair HX850 in my HTPC but I don't trust it. The Antec is only a cheap non-modular but it's made by Delta with Japanese caps so is a good, yet unpopular choice.
