Crossfire 7970 or wait for R9 290X

I’m unable to decide which route to go down... the only reason im not going crossfire is due to microstutter. Iv never gone crossfire before so the thought of games stuttering is really putting me off. I know AMD have released new drivers recently that’s supposed to fix microstutter but is it really fixed? If all games were smooth then I would buy another 7970 without thinking about it.
I guess I don’t want to buy another 7970 and be very disappointed...?

How is your case cooling, got any side fan intake/exhausts?

1080p (but may go 1440p next year)

Will be playing crysis 3, BF4, COD, F1 2013 ect..

PSU is a 850W XFX pro series (72A on 12v rail)

My case is a Antec 1200, 3 intakes and 3 exhausts
 
I would go Crossfire then T, as they have fixed it and for one screen. According to Crossfire users here, it is very smooth.

That will also work out faster than the 290X.

Things you should be aware of though are:

More noise and heat, possible support lacking for CF, more power being used and possibly early teething set up (but plenty here to help if you do have issues).

My thoughts anyways :)
 
Thanks for the advice guys, I didnt realise crossfire was now smooth, I thought I would have to put up with a slight stutter.
I would wait for the new cards, but I cant see the 7970 dropping price again on or before the 290X release?
 
Hard to say and I doubt a retailer would say "hold off till it releases because we will be dropping prices" The hard bit is if you wait, the old stock could be snapped up and only leave limited supply of the dearer models and the retailers might not be in a hurry to shift it.

You are damned if you do and damned if you don't :D
 
Perhaps another way of making the decision is to assume it goes "wrong". e.g. imagine you bought the old stock and then in a few weeks the new cards arrive and for not much more money are amazingly fast. Or imagine you hold off buying and then find the new cards are not much of an improvement for much more money.

Which of those two would upset you the least? Getting a bargain that isn't the fastest, or getting new tech but paying a lot more?

Are the new cards likely to beat 2 7970's? I should have mentioned Im already running 1 gigabyte 7970 and iv found another for a good price..
When are the new cards due to be released?

2x7970 will be faster than the 290x. New cards release mid October.
