So I have never owned 2 gpu at any point always been half interested in doing it but I only game at 1080p. I currently have a 480 4gb gigabyte g1 and tempted to put another one in but not sure if or what improvements I'd see or even if my psu could do it. I have a 600w xxx psu, i5 7600k, z270x gigabyte ultra gaming board and 16gb ddr4 2400

Personally, I wouldn't go back to Xfire or SLI. Too many issues when I last tried it and from what I've read, it's only getting worse in most games.

What games will you be playing?

PSU is fine, so is CPU.

Bit of everything, at the moment going between just cause 3,re7,bf1 etc I don't tend to stick to just one. I also plan on getting new mass effect and considering refuting gta5

CrossFire works well in Mass Effect 3, BF1 and GTA V.

Just Cause 3 does not support multi GPU at all. Resident evil 7 game engine is unfriendly towards multi GPU, so although a CrossFire profile is available with excellent scaling up to x2 GPUs in Crimson 17.1.1, we decided to remove it due to subtle flickering issues when turning sharply inside the house in 17.1.2.

Rule of thumb. Frostbite 3 engine supports CF/SLI, so you wont have issues with BF1, and possibly also Mass Effect Andromeda which is using the same engine.

Just Cause 3 doesn't support SLI/CF, and RE7 is buggy as hell for both also. (SLI & CF). Just activate the shadow caching on this game if you use AMD card. It greatly improves the performance compared to NV cards.

FYI On new/upcoming games, Sniper Elite 4 does support CF with great results and scaling.

Also all the issues with CF some others mentioned above, apply also to SLI...... and the issue is down to game engines mainly.

Crossfire is a miserable experience, buggy, poorly supported, was glad to be rid of it.

Yeah when it works perfectly in about 20% of games it is lovely but otherwise I'd never go back, if you want to upgrade you'll be best off selling and getting either a 1070/1080 or waiting for Vega.
