Hi all,

Slight problem here and thought I ask for some expert help. When I play Skyrim I get some sort of sound artifacts, like a crackling sound effect. It's annoying mostly but sometimes so bad I have to just save and stop playing and it's driving me up the walls. Only get it in Skyrim and when Crossfire is enabled. If playing Windowless Mode then it's all nice and quiet (but no Crossfire if doing that).

Have uninstalled it all and reinstalled it with no joy. Even if I play the vanilla Skyrim I get it so it is not one of the mods I'm using that does it. Can it be the graphics drivers that is messing it up for me or just down to "bad luck" ??

If drivers, I'm still on 14.301 (Catalyst Version 14.9), I have not updated to Omega yet, due to seen some here saying they had problems so thought I wait until it seems more settled. If starting to change drivers to find one that works, how would I go about doing it ? Guessing I need some tool to remove all present driver software so nothing will clash with an older version (if the new wont work I mean).

Using 2 R290 Vapor-X cards. Was suggested to try changing the Sample Rate and Bit Depth in the Speakers Properties section for the sound and no luck their either (Tried them all).

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated ! :)

hmmm that is weird. I would say there is some sort of driver conflict; whether its sound and amd's driver with crossfire....who knows. Can I ask when this started? Was it after something you installed? A new driver? *more information better we can help* :D

I'm using Omega and noticed a lot of bug fixes so I'd start with that one. To remove drivers; you can do it a couple ways. *some just install over and works; others that breaks things*....

You could try that first; just install Omega and test; if you're still getting it; uninstall the drivers........run DDO in safe mode to clear out the rest and then install.

Have you checked skyrim forums to see if anyone else is having this issue? Hope this helps :) and keep us informed.

It been since I installed 2nd card and went Crossfire so guess you could say it was after I installed my 2nd GPU. lol

I just clicked the update button when getting the message about new drivers in the past and seems to have worked fine then. I do it next time message comes up for me, hopefully next restart. And probably a daft question, but what is DDO ?? :o

Actually not checked their forum, only done a Google search and not got any hits there. Will pop over and have a look there.

Have replied, thank you ! :)

Had similar problem with cod aw and changing sound quality got rid of it for half hor or so.
Problem went away with new omega drivers :)

Ok a bit of an update. I had installed the latest sound driver for my mobo, which was Realtek HD Audio Driver Version R3.94, still having the sound problem though. AMDMatt then suggested to me to install Version R2.75 instead and that actually reduced the problem, but not totally removed it. Thanks Matt ! *thumbs up*

I then thought I do as postmanfw suggested and finally installed the Omega driver but ack, it got worse for me so back to using 14.9 again.

The funny thing though (if one can call it funny hmmm) is that when I first start the game it all nice and quiet, then after maybe 30-60 min (not really timed it) the sound artifact starts to slowly rear it's ugly head again but it's not constantly as it was before. If anyone has any idea's as to why it is behaving like it does, I'm all ears. :D

Might tinker and try CCC 14.4 as well, see if there is any difference there as well.

Have you tried changing your sound quality in Windows? Either up or down (24bit / 48k or 16 bit/44k hz etc)

Yes done that, tried every option available and no luck.

Thank you for all suggestions so far, very much appreciated ! :)

DDO is software to remove bits left behind by AMD and Nvidia software that can cause issues....

I'd try omega's again after uninstalling amd drivers and running ddo in safemode.....I'm running 7870 LE and omegas were a nice set. I think if things are running smooth them; its old driver conflict. Also are you running speakers or headset?

Sometimes reseating the cards can help. sometimes my wireless headset will crackle until I've either rebooted or moved the usb receiver to a new usb...not figured that one out LOL

Using speakers, Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Digital surround, bit old maybe but they still going strong otherwise.

Ok, so before I do anything with DDO want to make sure it is the right one I found through Google. Especially since it seems to involve removing registry key's as well, if this article points in the right direction ?

How to Completely Uninstall all AMD/Nvidia GPU Drivers

But if using this program (if it is the right one you guys talking about) Display Driver Uninstaller then I wont have to do it manual as above, it do it all for me ?

Sorry if being cautious but rather ask before using such a program, incase it's the wrong one and I mess things up even worse. :o
