Crossfire and SWTOR

Evening all. I'm thinking of purchasing another 7970 and going crossfire. At present I mainly play SWTOR. I tend to play MMOs mainly and wondered if crossfire is enabled in fullscreen windowed mode?

After some googling I found some conflicting answers. Is it possible to play TOR and most other modern games in windowed mode with crossfire enabled?

Thanks in advance.

Crossfire as far as I know doesn't work in windowed games, needs to be full screen.
At any rate, I wouldn't go Crossfire on TOR anyway, pretty CPU bound as most MMO's tend to be.

Defo CPU bound but to get things looking pretty I need to use super-sampling so the extra GPU grunt would be nice. I just have this thing about playing games in full windowed. Alt tab a lot and prefer it to be seamless.

So if crossfire doesn't work in windowed I may think twice. Might have to consider Titan but I would wait and see how the 780 and 8 series work out.

Thanks. I've also read SLI works in windowed mode. If that's correct does Nvidia have a bit of an advantage here? Also, again if this is correct, how can SLI take advantage of it when crossfire can't?

You have read correctly and SLI does work in windowed mode. Not sure why AMD's crossfire doesn't work at all, in any game in windowed mode but I am sure it isn't a problem for those that use Crossfire (or they will never tell us it is a problem :p).

Yes.

Because it's FTW to Nvidia if users need to run in both windowed/FS as AMD haven't bothered to make it happen, as that's lost sales for AMD as it's a lazy effort on their behalf not to implement a needed feature imo, but, I'm lucky, I don't use windowed at all.:)

SLI might supposedly work in fullscreen windowed mode but if I run WoW in windowed I get less than half the FPS I do in fullscreen proper on SLI 580s...

Never really found it to be a bother in non-MMO situations as you don't tend to alt-tab so much :p
