Just a quicky :p, If I say for example used my MSI 280X with a Sapphire Radeon R9 280X would they work fine in crossfire or is it recommended to have both of the same brand

They should work just fine - however two of the same will look better ofc :p
AMD cards are generally very lenient, I believe you can even Xfire a 7970 with a 280X!
