I have a Gigabyte Hd4850 I bought at release which once the parts arrive will be under water.

I'm looking to spend around £350 on a card and i was thinking either a 4850x2 or 4870x2

Would I gain any performance by adding my 4850 to either of these set-ups?

Is it a 512mb vcersion? If it is and you cf it with either a 4850x2 or 4870x2 (which are both 1gb per core) they will only run using 512mb of their memory. I would suggest the 4850x2 otherwise, as the comparatively slow gddr3 mem of the 4850 will slow down the 4870's gddr5

go for the 4870x2 then if u would rather spend the extra money, i suppost for an extra £30 u cant go wrong! i would imagine it will perform better than just adding a 4850x2 =]

Would get a nice boost, but you would still only have 512mb, as you lose 1x cards memory, and you also lose the memory on the card thats got the most. :)

can you crossfire two different cards i.e a 4850 and a 3870xt?

No only same series.

If a 4870x2 is only 30 quid more than a 4850x2, then yeah go for the 4870x2. Why is the price difference so small? the single cards themselves are 30-40 quid difference in price as it stands
