Bought one of the MSI 5850 before xmas for my system currently waiting for my SB bundle to arrive to finnaly complete my build. Now that the 5850 is on sale again im really tempted to buy one for crossfire but is it worth it?

Games ill likely play the most are the total war games empire and napoleon, Arma II and SC2.

Got it in my basket just dont know if i really need it :D

What CPU you using (and any overclock) at the moment?

Of those few games you mention, I doubt it is the 5850 holding you back at that res...I suspect the limitation lies with the CPU...

Check your GPU usage (you can use MSI Afterburner to display GPU usage on screen while in game), and during the scenes where your frame rate drop to very low see if the GPU is at 99% (100%) usage...if it's not, then it is the CPU not keeping up rather than the 5850 being not fast enough.

You're playing some of the most demanding games out there, with Arma2 and the total war series.... you could definitely do with the extra power even at your low res assuming the rest of the system is up to scratch.

Crossfire doesn't scale as well at lower resolutions, but you'll still get a worthwhile boost out of it.
