I currently have a HIS iCooler Radeon HD 5870 1GB card and am hoping to invest in another graphics card soon.

What I cant decide is: shall I have a single HD 5970 or two HD 5870s ?

From where you are now just add another 5870 and you're good for pretty much anything around at the moment for (comparatively) peanuts.

With Xfire 5870s you can wait for the true next gen of GPUs, although to be honest there's nothing around now that troubles my year old 5970 so I can't see me changing until the nVida 6 series/ATI 7 series (or whatever they are called).

I have to agree with Athanor. Just add another 5870 and save the £200. Having said that, you could get the 5970 and trifire with your existing 5870; that would be pretty sweet.

Another 5870 would be best, but you could possibly wait for the 6990. If you want a 5970, go for the XFX BE as it is designed to O/C to 5870 speeds.
