Hi

need help on deciding what to get, was originally set on evga 7959gx2 just as i am about to order the prices on the ati card drop, no right now not sure what to do anymore as getting a crossfire setup is only about 50 pounds more. Not really bothered about x1950xtx cards as i will upgrade again toward the end of the year. Or maybe even wait, but this getting harder as i am not playing most of the games i bought just waiting for my new conroe setup and gfx cards.

so its

x1900xt crossfire vs 1x 7950gx2

so what is should it be? heard crossfire is really messy to setup, is this ture?

and would not 2x x1900xt be very loud?

any help appreciated.

thanks :)

And what CPU do you have? Unless you have an overclocked Conroe then quad SLI (2x7950's) will almost certainly be CPU bound.

opps i have described it wrong, i just plan to get 1 x 7950 not two. even if i got a 7950 i doubt i will go quad, as i will be looking to get Dx10 cards.

sorry.

i am on crt right now, usually play at 1600x1400 or sometimes using the 19..x14.. resolution.

plan on purchasing a 30"lcd was going to get the dell, but decided to wait and see what samsung/benq had to offer before i did.

so ultimately it will be 30"lcd

going to get a conroe, E6700 overclocked. buying the system sometime this week only problem is choosing a motherboard for me rite now

thanks

I bet you regret choosing the name "AMD Power" now that you are going Intel
I am sure you wont regret the change.... If only I could afford it :(

lol, this is just a temporary pass through the dark side kind of thing

give amd till new year to bring something better or i will change my nick to INTELPower..

anymore opinions on this matter, i am leaning toward the 7950....

1x 7950GX2 and 2x X1900XT can't really be compared, as the 7950GX2 is basically two 7900GTs in SLi.

Just go for whichever your budget suits, 7950GX2 is great value for money.

Agreed, currently a single 7950GX2 is much better value than X1900XT's in CF. However the latter is faster.

EG:

Cheapest 7950GX2 on ocuk is: £381.82 inc VAT (please note the leadtek is cheaper but not in stock)

Cheapest X1900 CF setup you can run is: £253 inc VAT for the master card and £211 for the cheapest X1900XT, making a total of £464

This makes the difference of £83 in total ( i have assumed the rest of the setup would be of the same cost regardless of ALI of CF)

TBH unless you are planning on playing in uber resolutions then a single X1900XT would suffice.

In a few benchmarks I have seen a CF setup is worth equivelant of around 3 7900GT's /1.5 7950GX2 , so IF the result is right should last that much longer.

This isnt why I bought CF though - I have had one X1900 for a few months now and when I bought my 24" Dell I thought I would need 2GPU's at least to run at full res, and there were no SLI /conroe mobo's around - or officially compatible GX2 boards for conroe , so it was a doubly easy choise to make.

I hope this rig will last a year plus ( I may get some better ram, and possibly a better air cpu cooler in a few months time but thats it)

Conroe E6300, 2GB, CF and dual monitor (awaiting ATI to assist me on getting my pci card working so I can still use my 2nd monitor with CF enabled)

thanks a lot guys for all the advice, have kinda made my mind up now, will now go for x1950xtx, as it seems to have performance similar to the 7950gx2.

that is what gibbo said in another thread

Hi there

I've seen the X1950 both in Crossfire and as a single card.

Even a single X1950 XTX rivals a single 7950GX2. They are both very close but its impressive to see a single GPU card matching a Dual GPU card. Also the X1950 XTX should cost less than the 7950GX2 all things go well.
