Okay peeps, im gonna try n keep this as far from 'i want this for crysis' and 'the new 9800 are coming' type threads and just ask straight.........

2x 8800gt on an abit fatality mobo

OR

2x 3870 pro on (please add a xfire board here, ive no idea)

Which is gonna be most future proof, have best support and of course best peformance. i have a 19" WS monitor, i always prefer natural res (1400x900)
of course using all rest of kit in my spec

I would say 2x 8800GT. I'm not sure though, generally Crossfire is better than SLI if you are using the right cards.

I have heard good things about crossfire, but a word of caution as it does depend on the game and its support for X-fire
AMD are the most future proof right now, as a Phenom or AM2 CPU and board will be compatible with upcoming upgrades, whereas intel have a new socket coming out, so you would need to get a new mobo when you upgrade.

just saw this review

That isn't strictly true edgedemon. You need a brand new Socket AM2+ board to be futureproof, not an AM2 board.

Socket AM2 will run AM2 and AM2+ Processors (but cripples the memory management and HTT of the AM2+ processor).

Socket AM2+ will run AM2, AM2+, and AM3 Processors.

I would go with the ati version
reasons:
The Phenom CPU is not far behind a Q6600
and correct me if im wrong but most games aren't cpu limited atm

also if you buy a CrossfireX board you could say buy one 3870 now
then another
then another
then another

and run all four

whereas Nvidia's answer for crossfireX tri sli?? i think needs the new 790i mobo which isn't due to be released until next year sometime

but saying that if you're only planning on using two cards i would go with SLI
simply because ati dont have anything beyond the GT and the G92 GTS will be out soon which should also be better than the GT

someone correct me if im wrong only really patched info from wherever i have read it

:D
I think I read SLI will not support more than 2 GFX cards now or in the near future

Any benchies of 4 ati cards together? The only reason not to go sli is the lack of no p35 chipsets. that is if you want the best overclocking mb
