Crossfire problems :(

Hi

Having recently got a x1900 crossfire system together, i'm having a lot of grief with it. Seems ok at first but after a while (how long seems to depend on how demanding the game is) i get checkerboard like glitches. Also get weird glitches with canyon 3dmark06, its like one card cant keep up with the other, frames go out of sync.

I put my spec below but im thinking its the psu, iv heard x1900 crossfire is very power hungry and iv got 4 hds, 2 dvds, 6 120mm fans all hooked up as well. Also hear hipers are a bit shaky.

fx60 o/cd to 3ghz
2gb Corsair Ram
asus a8r32mvp mobo
sapphire x1900xt
sapphire x1900 master
Hiper Type R 580w
creative xfi
Coolermaster Stacker 830
2 x Raptor 40gb in raid
2 x Maxtor 80gb
Dell 2407

Any help would be much appreciated.

wow quick replies, thx dudes

I know the slave card is fine, been using it for ages with no problems. Havnt tried the new master on its own yet. Just got a new one delivered after a rma. One i had before, had similar problems with it but then it went blue, like a tint over the screen :S

In ccc, highest iv seen it is 72 degrees, but i dont know which card that is reporting. cpu/mobo both 40 ish under load.

Believe it or not the problem is to do with the Uli Southbridge chipset you have on your motherboard.

I have a similar setup on a second machine im running but with an Abit motherboard

If you have your sata drives on the ULi controller with the Uli drivers installed, its this that causes the corruption.

I found that using the other controller (Sil image) if its available on that motherboard should help

If you are going to do a format,

Dont install any Uli Software whatsoever

Try disabling the Uli Sata controllers in the Bios

Install XP, with the Sil Image f5 floppy

The ATi Catalyst Drivers will take care of any other Chipset drivers you need.

Hopefully that should help as the Sil Controllers run through the Northbridge Ati Chipset

You could try installing the silicon image drivers then ghost it to the new silicon image drive, may save lots of time

(typing this on my macbook)

i cant use the silicon image for raid as it only has one sata connector, looking in the manual, to use it for raid you have buy an external box seperately. So im stuck with the 4x uli connectors.

so guess i gotta remake my uli raid. Nothing else i can do at the moment :(

Hopefully a fresh install of windows might help solve some of the problems? Done a little more testing before i deleted raid, only seem to get the glitches on certain games.

railroads, bf2, css = good
fsx, company of heroes = bad

And its only the canyon test that ***** up in 3dmark06, 05 runs perfectly every time.

I'm really confused now :S

Quick fully star out that sweary, aint allowed as per the FAQ, family forum. :)

The canyon test on 06, if it goes all like multi colour splodges etc.. then thats normal, does it here to, its something to do with the mipmap slider i think in the CCC, you have to slide it up a bit to correct it ohh err. :)

Oh and i forgot yesterday, welcome to the forums. :D

Just as a quick fix. I have this problem too. If I disable aa in game(company of heroes)it seems to stop it,.I only get it in that game and a tiny amount in bf2142 but not bf2.

hehe thx for the welcome, dont get multicolour splodges, its like one card goes out of sync with the other, flickers sort of. mipmap slider to the right, quality.

ok i'll disable aa and try coh, dont really need aa at 1900x1200, was being greedy coz of crossfire ;)

Also rewired psu to make sure 2nd graphics card was on a wire all on its own, might help dunno really :P jus gotta install windows to find out...

3dmark06 canyon now works

reinstalled windows, installed cpu driver (never had that before, d'oh), dual core optimizer, ati drivers, 3dmark06(with directx)

3dmark 05 15852
3dmark 06 9680

only other thing i changed was with the psu. the case i got has like a vent above the psu, says in the manual u can put it in upside down, i thought thatd be better, but maybe it wasnt getting enough air, the vents pretty small, also put the 2nd gfx card power in the furthest socket away from the pcix.

played coh for about an hour, no glitches at all :)

Dunno what exactly did it but it seems sorted thx peeps

1950 crossfire has issues with canyon test in 2006, ATI 6.10 beta's resolve this,
may be the same for 1900 crossfire setups

Also with cross fire it's best to uninstall all ATI software before installing drivers etc
