Building a system with an X1950 XTX crossfire solution.

I want to run two monitors on it :-
Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP as the main gaming monitor (1920 x 1200)
Hyundai L90D+ as the desktop monitor (1280 x 1024)

My query is does the Crossfire solution have to use the external connector cable ? And if so does that then mean that you cannot run a second monitor ?
Is there now an internal solution ?

It has been hinted to me that a crossfire system is limited to 1600 x 1200 resolution ? Couldnt really find any reasoning for this but wanted to confirm that its not.

Well flipping the problem on its head then would an SLi set up allow the 2nd monitor to run my desktop whilst gaming ?
