Ok I have a 6990 and a 6970' just replaced both the coolers with bigger versions but now the crossfire bridge will only go upwards from the 6990 as the new cooler is too big to go over, can you get a crossfire brige bigger than 100mm or would it be ok to run the 6970 as the primeary card as I don't need the display ports on the 6990.. Thanks
 
The system will only use the amount of VRAM that the lowest card has.

Ie, if you had a card with 3gb and a card with 2gb. The system will only use the 2gb.

I have 2x 560ti in SLI (both 1gb). I have 1gb of VRAM, not two.

Your 6990 has the same amount of VRAM (per GPU) as your 6970. As you are no doubt aware, the 6990 is a dual GPU card therefore its 4GB VRAM is shared, i.e. 2GB per GPU, so no worry about wasted VRAM.

A 6990 comes with a 10cm bridge mate - or at least my HIS 6990 did. I bought 2 x 10cm ones from ebay due to lack of UK stock just before also - silly me!
 
Update, I put the 6970 in the top slot running 3DMark 11 and got some interesting scores so I did some more swapping about and got the below results :s

@16x16x

Ok so I did the same test on a Msi P67 board that will only run 16x8x unlike my main pc results above at 16x16x

6970/6990 P14451 @ 16x8x

6990/6970 P 14290 @ 16x8x

looks like it will run better with the 6990 on the bottom slot, I didn’t try this with eyefinity yet but I’m sure it will end up the same.. 

Thanks, my HIS did aswell but i gave it to a mate :S.. what monitors do you use for your eyefinity and do you have a triple monitor stand? just i would like to reduce my screen size to 24/26 so can fit on a triple stand :)
 
Thanks for that, I like the look of it for the price but I’m not sure if the outer displays will tilt inwards the rite amount for eyefinity games, saying that I have single desk stands that look just like the connectors on this stand, I will try putting all my monitos in a straight line and just tilt the outer screens in using just the ball joint on the mounts, my stands have a 2nd joint half way down the arm to tilt inwards but it may work..

I use 3 x 26" 1920x1200 Iiyama and no, I don't have a stand. They just sit on my desk

Your results for the 6970/6990 combinations are interesting. Thanks for posting :) I now have my 6970 in the top slot again so I can disable CF. I knew the performance would change but I thought it would be the other way, i.e. less performance with the 6970 in the top!
