Crossfire question.

I have seen around people having a 290 and a 290x in crossfire?

I didn't think this was possible? Or are they the same card with slightly different clock?

I was under the impression that it had to be the same card so 970 and 970 but the branding can be different.

Crossfire is extremely flexible. You can Crossfire a 290X with a 290 or a 295x2 to make TriFire. Crossfired cards can operate at different speeds too, without issue.

Oooo.. this is nice to hear! I didn't know that though, that's pretty cool.

So i'm guessing the card are totally independent of each other when it comes to overclocking them and stuff.

Surely this would bring some performance issues? or does the more powerful one take more of the pressure when needed.

Yes you can overclock both independently if required, but most people usually overclock both at the same time for convenience.

Cards can operate at different speeds without issue.

Wow, that's pretty impressive.

I've never looked at the 295x2 before, they are a nice piece of kit, but then do have the price tag to match!

I don't know why i waited for so long before trying the 295x2. In hindsight i should have bought at least one a long time ago. Not going to make the same mistake i did with the 7990 either and sell it only to regret it later.

I can't look at them any longer, it will make me want one!

Correct running 290x with 290 and runs very good. The 290x is at 1030/1250 and the 290 @977/1250

I will have to consider when i go crossfire. Although, don't think i could do that as it wont match
