I currently run a 280x, playing games at 1080p, however in the coming month's I am upgrading a lot of my system and was wondering what would work better...

Adding a second 280x and Crossfiring them or purchasing a single MSI 390x, I plan to be gaming at 1440p when upgrading but I've heard bad stories about Crossfiring and since i'm still kinda' new to all this I thought i'd ask some opinions.

Cheers

None of the above ^

The regular 390 and overclock.

+1. A 390 is the best choice for you at 1440p considering cost-performance ratio. But if you have enough money to through at it then Fury is a great choice also. That's only if you want to stay in the red corner.

i ran 280x's in CF for a long time and they was killer cards and was used at 1440.
the cards way out power the 390 and 390x,
there is some problem with CF for some users i had none but you may do.

the best option is always one powerful card but that said you can get a 280x now for £80-£90 and it a very big upgrade if you have the system to use them.

What games are you going to be playing and what is your budget?

GPU budget is around £450-£500, I've been looking at the new R9 Nano (I know it's slightly over my stated budget) but I just like the look of it. I play Battlefield, Project Cars, Mad Max, Fifa, Dying Light, etc and the new Fallout, Battlefront and Rainbow Six games look tempting.

I'm unsure as whether to stay AMD as all this talk of DX12 and Nvidia is worrying, hopefully it'll be sorted and we'll know more on the issue by the time I do upgrade so the thought of Nvidia won't be as worrying.

Dont go crossfire if u like to play new games straight away.

I waited 10 months for elite dangerous crossfire profiles and gave up and there still not done.

If sticking to your budget i would go for one of these. They run cool and quiet and are not too far behind a Fury X.

If you want the Nano then i would go for this one as it's only marginally over your budget.

Agree with Matt above on the Furys being cool and quiet, my 2x in Xfire only go from 70 to 77, and are pretty much silent, can hardly hear them, fantastic cards, my single 290X i had before was hotter and louder :p
