When doubling up my graphics cards using crossfire (XFX 7850), do i have to keep the same card, an identical card with same ram and manufacturer, or can i use any old card as long as its a 7850
 
As the other have said, you can crossfire a 7850 with any other 7850 or 7870. You can also run the cards at 2 different speeds (core and/or memory) if you want. The only thing to bear in mind is that if they don't have the same amount of memory, you will only be able to utilise the smallest amount - so pairing a 2GB card with a 1GB one will give you 2 x 1GB cards in crossfire.
