Guys,

Was thinking about getting 2 of the bellow cards in crossfire and putting waterblocks on each as they say they can achieve high clocks ? is this standard or do you have to do it yourself and if so is it easy to do is it a case of moving a few sliders in asus software or something ??

Also I had previously a hd4870x2 on the same loop as my overclocked cpu and temps were fine would I be right in saying i could put these 2 cards on ther same loop ?? My card was defective and got full refund :D

card is as follows --> http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-195-AS

The volt mod they have in there should allow you to squeeze a bit more out of it, as the volt mod can top the voltage out at 1.45v. Asus cover the volt modded overclocks in their warranty, so even if it goes pop from a slightly ambitious overclock you'll be able to get it replaced

With the costs of 4870x2's is it cost effective to get a 4890 instead of a 4870x2? now I had a saphire one that after 6 months decided to pack up on me and eventually got a refund but I want to water cool them aswell.

So would a 4870x2 be cost effective and more powerfull than a single 4890 and if so maybe hd4870x2's in crossfire ??

a single 4870x2 will comprehensively beat a 4890. 4890s are, after all, speed binned 4870s, so that they can add another 100 or so mhz to the clock speed. With 4870x2s currently a £250 I'd be tempted to go with

As for putting two x2's in crossfire, the performance from 4 GPUs is almost identical to 3 GPUs, so possibly splashing out on a single 4870 and crossfiring that with the x2 would give a nice boost without costing too much

Does OCUK stock the hd4890 or HD4870x2 cards with water blocks on?? As I am also wondering when the atomic versions are coming out ???

Like I said in a previous post is it a case of moving a slider in software to over clock it ?

guys if i was to get the asus 4890 as mentioned in my first post is it easy to achieve the 950 and 4600 clock they say ? and how you achieve this is it via their software with the card as I dont want to buy the card and not reach its potential as I am considering getting 2 of these in crossfire and stick a waterblock on both.

I eagerly await your help guys :D

Volt mod should definitely work under crossfire, as it's a hardware implementation. Are you sure it didn't with your card? Crossfire is unlikely to clock as high as a single card, that doesn't mean the volt mod isn't working.

Overclocking graphics cards is very straightforward as you have to do it all in software. Recommend evga precision (unless it refuses to work with ati cards, in which case you're stuck with rivatuner). You move sliders until your stability test of choice fails then back off slightly. Water will definitely help with hitting higher speeds, and it'll do it quietly.

Once you know your stable settings, you can edit the gfx card bios to reflect the faster speeds and flash the card. It then runs overclocked whether you have the software running or not, so it survives os reinstalls and so forth.
