CrossFire.... Slight Oversight?

Hi,

Think I've been a slight arse and over looked a consideration for running 2 7950's in CrossFire.

That being the lack of space between the PCIEx16 slots on my motherboard, which is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R.

Basically, there isn't enough space to fit the two of them..... Or have I just not spotted the obvious?

Anyone out there currently the same configuration successfully?

If you are how have you fitted the two cards.

If not, what's the best way to fit them, or am I going to have to find a motherboard with correct spacing of slots?

Help/Advice appreciated.

Regards

The Ice'Q's are 2.5 slots wide looking at a pic of my old setup.

If you can't fit them in, or don't have more than two pci-e slots i don't see what choice you have other than to get a motherboard with better spacing.

Whip the cooler off the card in slot 1 and replace with a smaller aftermarket solution ? (though a bit of money to spend on what are now older cards).

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Tried 1 & 3, not enough room.

As LtMatt has pointed out, they're a useful 2.5 slots wide.

Run slots 1 & 5 on that board (first and last pcie slots). Its x58 so all 4 lanes on that board should do a minimum of 2.0 x8

You never know, iirc my 7970 lightning came with flex bridges to do anything from 2-7 slots :)

1-5 slot isn't as big of a gap as that board makes it out to be, I ran 1-5 with my 7970's on x79 and now 1-5 on my 780's with z87 - outside of Asus it's fairly common card spacing, Asus like to use 2-5 just to **** me off :D

Unfortunately, not enough clearance from the PSU to fit in slot 5.

What a pain in the arse, so much for a quick up grade.... On the plus side, one spare card and a nice new PSU :-)

Reference the riser, have googled, but fail to see how that helps, or I haven't found the correct one?

Tbh I would just DSR the 2.5 slot card in favour of something a little slimmer. That or I'd imagine you could pick up a more suitable x58 board these days for peanuts.

OcUK don't seem to have any, but a x16 to x16 riser would allow you to space the GPU further away and use which ever port you wish.
