No, you can only sli nvidia cards in an nvidia mobo (6 or 7 series)

the 6 series are horrible mobos, and the 7 series aren't much better. crossfire mobos are much more stable (P35/P45/X38/X48)

so i can still run my 8800gts on a asus p5q pro intel p4 mobo
just wont be able to sli it in future ?

Thats correct, you can run single card solutions on either type of motherboard or dual card solutions like the ATI 3870 X 2 OR Nvidia 9800 GX2. (crossfire & SLI on a single card)
