Just got round to getting my new PC built a couple of weeks ago ( bought it all in april-ish, new baby forced the long wait :( ).

Had it all running sweet, crysis, cod4/5 so on and so forth.

NOW... Looking at the options menu in cod5, noticed the dual card option and wondered... looking into the CCC options, noticing the crossfire wasnt even enabled!!!

couldnt wait to get it enabled and watch the graphics power be unleashed, i got right on it, only for the pc to freeze, and lock on a black screen. so after a restart i tried again, same thing. tried it with a few games and still no luck. so i restrted it and was pondering as to what it could be... when i returned it had crashed to the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH  and stated it was caused by some ati file, sorry cant remember the specific one (using the net at work atm... ) so i restarted once more and disabled crossfire... fancied a game of assassins creed, about 2 mins into the game BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH flashed up and my pc restarted itself.

So... my point being, cant get crossfire to work, ive uninstalled and reinstalled 3 previous drivers and the new 8.11 and still the same probs. updated my other software drivers just incase, still the same prob.

heres the spec of my machine (as stated on my online statement)

NZXT Hush Classic Series Silent Midi-Tower Case - Black
OCZ ModXStream 900w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
MSI K9A2 Platinum AMD 790FX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
AMD Phenom Quad Core 9600 2.30GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)
2x HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT ICEQ3 512MB GDDR4 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Sounblaster Audigy 4 ( Had previous to system build )

None of the hardware has been overclocked etc as im clueless about oc, so basically as-is was built, except for enabling fast boot in bios...

any help / links would be appreciated, thankyou

Chris.

:)

***EDIT***forgot to add, sometimes more than not, pc freezes and i get the vpu recover msg...***EDIT***

I had two HIS 3870s in CrossFire and they were rubbish tbh! I had quite a few issues, but the main one was similar to what you're experiencing; the system would lock up and BSOD in games.

In the end I figured out it was the card's fan control, which was completely b0rked and apparently written by someone who was unaware that graphics cards heat up under load. Can you run something like RivaTuner and a stress-test, e.g. FurMark, and check what the temperatures are like?
