Hi all,
so with the BF3 buzz all around i'm thinking of upgrading my 5850 (see sig). I was toying with getting another 5850 for xfire, but then thought, maybe i could get a newer gen card and xfire it with the 5850?

IIRC back in the day you could have the better card as master and lower card as slave? Is this still possble (or was it ever possible).

I've never dual carded (xfire or sli) before, so not really sure. Or even whether to go and get a new single card.

Advice appreciated, thanks. :)

I can test with a 5830 and 5850, but that is the wrong way round for you. I was going to swap the 5850 in as a £20 upgrade, after selling the 5830, but the xfire option should work in my motherboard and I still have both cards.

He's on about next gen.

I'm pretty certain that you can only Xfire with cards of the same family, such as 57xx, 58xx, 68xx, 69xx.
Although looking at that chart it seems to suggest you can Xfire a 6770/6750 with a 5770/5750. How odd. I wonder how many people have actually got a setup like that?

Those are the odd one out's.

You can Crossfire a 5770/5750 with a 6770/6750 because the 6770/6750's are just rebranded 5770/5750's.

Basically the 6750 is the same GPU as a 5750 and a 6770 is the same GPU as a 5770.
