I've got an HIS X1900XT IceQ3 that I bought recently from OCUK when it was on special offer and was debating about going down the Crossfire route, which I've never done before.

Got a friend who has offered me his HIS X1900 Crossfire (non-IceQ) card for £200 - retail, as new.

Given I've never had Crossfire before - is it really worth the price of a 2nd card? I've only ever really heard people saying "it's not quite as good as SLI" and not to expect 2x the speed. But is the speed increase enough to warrant the price?

For context I have a Dell 2405FPW LCD and Conroe E6700 that will be going under Vapo LS (so aiming for 4Ghz+)

Id say yes for £200 definately worth it, the increase in not double obviously, but the increase at high resolutions with lots of eye candy will be massive, and with a conroe as well, be a cracking rig.

£200 is a bargain for the master card, especially as its still as new, they are £250 odd on here brand new.

I won't tell my mate as he wants to go x1900 Xfire, but hes waiting for the master cards to drop to around the £200 mark. :D

My understanding/impression is that Crossfire is harder to set up initially than SLi and can be quite annoying/fiddly to begin with. But apparently once you've got it set up properly then its meant to be better than SLi.

NOTE: I have no direct experience of either, and have no personal attraction to either, as I prefer a single card option myself. The above is just to provide some information that I have read about sli and crossfire. Please do not flame me if you disagree with what I have said! :)

Maybe I shouldn't point out then that the card my mate is selling has only been used once, before he decided he needed the money instead. :D

Yeah, got a 24 inch. Would be nice to run some games at native if its possible.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Its worth it definitely - I have tried several different games and the performance increase over one card is easily noticable

If you like Oblivion, which I dont, then its easily worthwhile - I state that game inparticular as you can have HDR + AA simultaneously (as you probably know already) at really decent frame rates

I told my mate, then to make matters worse i showed him Gibbos post where he says the prices won't change now, so if hes hoping for master card for under £200 then to forget it. :D :D

LOL at the disclaimer just incase you get called a fanboy!

Only thing to watch with Crossfire is the load they put on a PSU. I went to a 700w Sparkle to get mine stable. The new 6.7 drivers are a must as they let you enable AFR across all D3D games (unless they are blocked due to incompatability) and with x6AA x16AFHQ AAA I get over 160 FPS out of rfactor with 30 cars on an oval.

i would go for it, £200 for a mastercard is a good price, not as good as the price i got my card(s) for but still good ;)
Well I guess £200 is good compared to retail, no need to brag. :)

Thanks for that info.

I have the Sparkle (FSP) 700W as well so hopefully that should be up to the job. :)
