i need some help for a friend will any x850 card work in crossfire. What i mean by this is could he buy any existing x850 and then buy a x850 master card and it will work
Cheers

Yes...one x850 master card and one x850 slave should work fine together in crossfire.

But why your friend not just buy a faster x1900xt card...
Surely one x1900xt card is going be cheaper then master & slave x850 cards.
Plus the x850 has no sm3 support.

Sorry am not sure of that one myself....

I just looked at some x850 on ATI compare website.

RADEON X850 CROSSFIRE EDITION = CrossFire™ Ready = Yes
RADEON X850 XT PLATINUM EDITION = CrossFire™ Ready = N/A
RADEON X850 XT = CrossFire™ Ready = N/A
RADEON X850 PRO = CrossFire™ Ready = N/A

So it looks like you need a crossfire ready slave card as well..

Have a look here

They are all Crossfire ready cards. :)

I would'nt go Crossfire with the x8 series as its totally worthless, its stuck at 60hz, and 1600x1200 resolution. :)

So ideal if u have a TFT monitor :p I'm still considering getting a crossfire edition x850 for my x850xtpe, a crossfire setup would be pretty sweet imo.

Am running a TFT at 1920x1200 so 1600x1200 is pretty useless to me. :p

And i sure can't see why some people would want to spend that amount of money on a crossfire setup of x850 cards that don't even have Support for Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 Shader Model 3.0...
(Am guessing some people just don't like eye candy in there games.)

I was talking more about the refresh rate tbh.

But I see where you're coming from on the futureproofing aspect. It does seem a bit pointless, spending so much money on a reasonably small performance boost.
