is it purely just for gaming that you will gain the advantage for crossfire.

i have the x1950xtx and i am wondering if i can justify getting the master card

if its just for gaming?

so what would yar class as high res then?

i was thinking about going dual monitor so it may be worth it then.
 
a dual monitor setup usually has a seperate screen res's for each monitor as you would normally, it just stretches the desktop etc across both screens if you want it to.

for my old set up, i had 2 19inches. both had a seperate res of 1280x1024 and not a combined res of 2560x1024

so crossfire wouldnt be any good because afaik you cant use multi monitor setup with crossfire? same with sli i think?
 
You'll find that if you plug a 2nd monitor into a 2nd graphics card, it will use the GPU on the same card it's plugged into. So under Windows the load of 2 or more monitors will be spread across 2 (or more!) cards . Crossfire only works on processing a 3D display for a single monitor.

Unlike SLI, Crossfire works in any application that uses 3D, so not just games. AFAIK Crossfire won't make any difference in 2D.

Be mad to get another worthless x1950 XTX, id sell the one you have and get an 8800 GTX, its next gen, has much better image quality, and is faster than 2x of those x1950 XTX's in Crossfire, be mad to waste your money on old tech now, those cards are worthless as said. :)
 
And as for the dual screens, what if you plug your multi card setup into the digital version of the matrox triple head to go?

It's my understanding that you do get increased resolution (3 x 1280x1024 monitors = 3840x1024) so something like crossfire or an 8800gtx would be a very good idea!

Incidentally - kingo15 your motherboard will work fine with an 8800gtx! Infact, you might have problems with needing a better PSU with two x1950's. The 8800 would be a far better choice!
