Hi guys, I've just bought a pc with Phenom II x3 2.8 OC'd to 3.3ghz. 4gb RAM, 650w cpu wich is water cooled. and i have a 4890 1024. i want to crossfire it with another 4890 is this possible or will it over heat?? what do it need? and do i need exact same 4890 as mine is HIS.

Thanks

Depending on your motherboard, and providing it's compatible, then yeah you can. You don't need any specific 4890 crossfire it with either.

Yes it's possible so long as your motherboard supports Crossfire. If you're not sure whether it does or not, post the motherboard name & model here & someone will be able to tell you.

Will it overheat? No, not unless you case has very poor airflow.

Do you need exactly the same model? No, although it's preferable. Any 4890 1GB with the same specification should be fine.

well its all compatible just didnt want it to over heat and my mother board is a Gigabyte MA79oxt-ud4p

What do i need exatly to do this and will it not over heat??

yes its all compatible.

your board has 2 pcie slots which will run at *8 which will be fine.

you shouldn't have any overheating problems as long as you have half decent case cooling.

don't panic, order the card and enjoy. :)

you can use any card that has 1g mem be it his, asus or whatever the hell.

jobe

Yes, the IP35 is technically capable of running CrossFire, but it's not worth it because the second PCI-E lane runs at only 4x.

reflux what do i need to cross fire 2 cards?? :D ANd i see your from headingly! horsforth here :)

You need two compatible cards (ie two 4890s), a compatible motherboard such as yours, one or two CrossFire bridges to act as interconnects between the two cards (usually come with the cards) and a sufficient power supply, able to supply in your case four 6-pin PCI-E leads.

Hello from Headingley :) Not actually from here, came for Uni and haven't left yet :D

All the required items are inclided with the card :) Just make sure you have enough power connectors (the card will come with 4 pin molex to 6 pin if you don't, so no big worry), and make sure you connect the crossfire ribbon which connects like this:

using 2 bridges makes no difference :P only one is needed

also old 4890s use 2x 6pin, and new ones use 1x6 and 1x8pin

Nope not true, I got my new ati 4890 from sapphire and has 2 6 pins. You will see a huge improvement mate as the 4890's in cf scale very well. Your cards will be faster than a single 5870 and a gtx 295. Have fun :)

maybe manufacturer only then as i have one 3month old with 2x6 and one from OCUK 1month old with 1x6 1x8, both XFX XXX ones

** i foudn out why, it was specially made by XFX to allow more power drawfor OC'ing, 8pin allows 150watts isntead of 6pin 75watts
