Hi.

My brother took delivery of his new pc today and the motherboard in it is the
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 - AMD 890GX - Socket AM3 - PCI-E 2.0 (x16) - DDR3 2000(OC) - SATA 6Gb/s - SATA RAID - ATX
In it he has a VTX3D 1GB Radeon HD 5570 DDR3 PCI-E 2.1 Graphics Card
He wants to know if he put's another graphics card in that is the exact same, will it work in CrossFire. I said it would, after trying to do some research it seems to me that this motherboard and 2 of this graphics card will work in CrossFire. Could anyone of you guy's help out please. Firstly to say yes or no to this working in CrossFire mode and secondly if it will is it just a case of buying and installing another identical card, or is there something that has to be done to make it work, prior to or after installing the second card. I hope you can understand what i'm asking as i too am a complete noobie. I have just ordered my parts from OCUK to build my first gaming pc. So i suppose i'll be asking lots of questions come build time. Anyway, if anyone out there can help i would really appreciate it. Thanks. :)

Yes that motherboard supports crossfire so two identical cards would work.

The 5570 is a really weak card though, the DDR3 really holds it back. I don't see any point in crossfiring a pair of them. You'd be better off selling it and buying a 5770 or better if you want to use the PC for gaming.

Thanks very much for the information guy's. I'll pass it on to my brother, saying "Yes it would support CrossFire with another identical card, but if playing games he's better to get rid and buy a better card" One final question, is there a card available that is good enough to use as a single card for now, at around the £100 mark, and that would be suitable for installing a second identical card for CrossFire in the future. Thanks for the information you already gave, and thank you for any help you can give with my latest question. CrossFire i think, is something he would like in the future, but unfortunately he dosn't have lots of money. He was pig sick when i ordered all the parts for my £2500 gaming system, recommended by you guy's in the General Hardware Forum.

EDIT.

Going back to telling him what you said about getting rid and getting a better card. I know now what he will say. He will say " Well i only want to play low end games and would another 5570 in CrossFire not be good enough for low end game" I virtually guarantee that, that is what he will say.

A question from me.
Does this board not have the ability to automatically overclock the GPU, or is that just for the on board graphics?

Holy wall of text Batman

5770 crossfire performs really well, and isn't too power hungry, so one card now and another later would probably be a good way to go. If you have a really weak PSU though, even this won't be an option.

Don't throw money away on another 5570 whatever though.

The pc is brand new and the PSU is a Corsair 650TX Ultra Quiet.
Do you think this would be ok for 2x 5770's in CrossFire.

more than enough for 2 x 5770, how about buying a single hd 5850, but crossfiring it in the future would probably be cutting it too close with the psu.
